Welcome to Newport Drug! We have been in business for over 70 years. The drug store started out when Robert E. North (Bob) purchased Village Drug in 1948 and eventually renamed it Newport Drug. In 1952, Newport Drug moved from its original location, the present day site of Tinucci’s restaurant in Newport, to the east side of Highway 61 in the newly constructed Newport Center. Newport Center was built by Bob North and a partner, George Fisher of Fisher Foods. In the late 1950s, when the shopping center expanded, the soda fountain in the drug store grew into its own space creating a separate North Pole Restaurant. The restaurant has grown to currently accommodate 120 patrons.

Dave North, a 3rd generation pharmacist, purchased the drug store from his father Bob in 1975 and continued the drug store and restaurant business. Tricia, Dave’s daughter, is a 4th generation University of Minnesota pharmacist, graduating in 2004 with her Doctorate of Pharmacy. Tricia and her brother, Brian, now own and operate the combined business. Newport Drug is a full service pharmacy and prides itself on fast, friendly patient care and customer service.
